Echo & the Bunnymen, Justin Hawkins, Black Lips & More for SPIN's Annual SXSW Bash
Dark romantic legends Echo & the Bunnymen are set to headline SPIN's annual Friday afternoon soiree at Stubb's BBQ during next month's South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas.
Also on the bill: former Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins's new band, Hot Leg; Atlanta-based punk rockers Black Lips; Britpop upstarts Glasvegas; electro popsters Passion Pit; and New Zealand indie darlings Cut Off Your Hands. Set for Friday, March 20, from noon to 6:30 P.M., the party will also feature DJ sets from the Crystal Method and N.A.S.A., and performances on the indoor stage by the Monthlies, Burke, and Hatcham Social.
Hard Rock Hideout Review
Justin Hawkins will forever be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Because of his vocal style everything he does will always be compared to his work in the Darkness there is just no way around it. His new band Hot Leg has just released their debut album “Red Light Fever” and yes it does sound like the Darkness but it sounds like a new and improved version. “Red Light Fever” by far passes both albums released by his previous band.
RushOnRock - Interview With Justin
Still no word on whether Justin made it out of his tunnel last night but if this just happens to be his last interview for a while then it’s a belter. Fresh from The Brits and with a new record to peddle, the former Darkness hero was his usual ebullient self as he talked awards, homosexuality and the value of rock icons Def Leppard and Whitesnake. You can pick up a copy of Red Light Fever now and Hot Leg play Newcastle’s o2 Academy on Friday March 6.
rushonrock: You were back at the Brits this week so what’s the gossip?
Competition: Hot Leg in the Village
This time we want to send 2 lucky winners along to see The rock and roll supershow that is Hot Leg.
Formed from the ashes of The Darkness, Justin Hawkins has strapped back up and back with rocking riffs and sublime solo’s. Tickets are €15.45 for this gig which is a snip to see a band of this calibre in a venue as intimate as the Village.
The gig takes place on Friday February 27th. So we will close the Competition on WEDNESDAY 25th of February.
To win just send us the answer to this question to competitions@goldenplec.com - What is the name of their debut album?

Irish Independent: Q&A Justin Hawkins
You had a solo project called British Whale. Why did you decide to form a new band?
I missed being in a band. It's pretty simple -- it's just about four blokes making noise!
Will Hot Leg shows feature spectacular live stunts like The Darkness?
We're keeping it simple with this stuff. We can't do pyro or big props and it's still evolving in terms of presentation. People will get to see exactly what I experience in rehearsals.
Now officially confirmed- The Crave support
Former Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins' new band Hot Leg, and Brighton based quartet The Crave, have announced a string of tour dates over the next few weeks.
RushOnRock - Interview tomorrow
"rushonrock can exclusively reveal that Justin Hawkins was tonight lost in a tunnel somewhere in the south of England.
His last words before he entered the unidentified passage were: “This could get hairy.” Moments later he disappeared - just 24 hours after vanishing from the Brits’ after-show party.
But don’t despair Hot Leg fans. We managed to grab a few minutes with the high-pitched one moments before his unforeseen exit and a brand new interview with the Hawk will appear here tomorrow. Whether Hot Leg’s frontman appears anywhere tomorrow remains to be seen…"
